Our handcrafted moss poles with aroid mix are not only attractive to the eye, they’re also very functional!
Trying to decide between our moss poles and aroid mix poles? The main difference between the two is the aesthetics. Both function identically, but many people prefer the natural look of aroid mix. Keep in mind we do add some sphagnum moss to our aroid mix poles but it's only a minor component in the mix. We do this to help keep everything together and to ensure the capillary action is able to function properly and keep the aroid mix moist at all times. Because these poles contain mostly aroid mix they will hold slightly less water and sometimes need to be filled just a little more often, but we think the beautiful, natural look these poles more than makes up for this small difference.

In addition to being self-watering, extendable and compatible with virtually all types of growing media, they also feature a small base to prevent the moss pole from leaning over. The base also has holes that you can attach wire to; the wire can then be threaded through one or more holes in your pot to add even more stability. We find this is rarely necessary, but the option is there in case you ever need it.
The base is sealed with a special food-grade sealant to prevent it from leaking, but unlike cement or glue, the base can still be removed by hand if needed (though you’ll probably never need to).
We also use a unique thin-walled pipe that is 1” in diameter, which creates a larger reservoir to hold more water so you don’t have to refill it as often.
We use multiple wicks that are made of a special capillary material that allows the pole to wick up water quickly and efficiently and over longer distances, which is particularly important as you extend your pole using our optional moss pole extensions.
Also included is a roll of 1/2" wide double-sided Plant Velcro, which can be cut into multiple lengths and used to attach your plant to the moss pole. Once the roots are established you can remove the strips and reuse them.
All moss poles and extensions have an overall outside diameter of approximately 2½”. Here’s a quick sizing guide:
If you would like to alter any of these dimensions or have a custom request please message us and we’ll do our absolute best to accommodate you.
